Beaumont Marine Park & Mount Norman
South Pender Island

Located on South Pender Island, the Beaumont/Mount Norman area offers a sea-to-sky outdoor experience— there are plenty of trails to hike and a sandy beach to relax on. One book about hiking in the Gulf Islands says that this area is one of the most beautiful in the islands.

Getting to Beaumont Marine Park & Mt. Norman:

The Penders are accessible from Swartz Bay (Vancouver Island) and Tsawwassen (Mainland, near Vancouver) through BC Ferries. BC Ferries provides service to Otter Bay Ferry Terminal on North Pender. The park can also be reached by water with a private boat or kayak—access is from the Pender Canal or Swanson Channel. By land, the park can be found off of Canal Road, about a 15-minute drive from the ferry terminal.

You can walk along the shoreline or hike up Mount Norman. Depending on which route you take, you may travel as far as six kilometres. Mount Norman is the highest point on the Penders—its viewpoint offers a panoramic scene of the surrounding islands. You will pass Garry oak, arbutus, tall fir trees and salal as you travel to the top.
Other recreational activities you might like to try in this area include: picnicking, fishing, swimming and paddling. If you are near the shoreline, watch for mink, river otters, seals and ducks.
